Alain, your host, is in his forties. He was born in Roanne, in the Lyon area well known for its excellent cooking. In 1991 he moved to Paris for work. He rapidly fell in love with the City of Lights.

In 2006, Alain decided to change his life which until that point was completely devoted to his work as an insurance lawyer. Since then and in order to satisfy his desire of independence and a healthier life, he has created a simpler one, without excesses, and is satisfied with the financial contribution of his bed and breakfast.

Alain has invested a lot in his apartment. He completely renovated it and decorated it with unique items of high quality.

While Alain often visited theatre, exhibitions and museums, now, he appreciates staying peacefully at home and takes advantage of his free time to relax, read or reflect. However, he always keeps himself posted about the events which take place in the capital and can share his knowledge of Paris with you if you wish.

Alain keeps at your disposal a beautiful book on the covered galleries and highly recommends that you visit these romantic places, especially to couples.

About Alain's district today:
Today, the life of this district so called "the Sentier", is mainly organised around the clothing business, its manufacturers, wholesalers, shops of clothes and creators of ready-to-wear clothing. From morning till night people work right through. From Alain's windows, you can even watch the needlewomen in a workshop located on the other side of the street.

It is a very central district, ideal if you want to visit Paris by foot. It is for this reason that Alain choose to live there, after spending several years near Montmartre. Close to numerous theatres, to the Opera Garnier, to the Department Stores - Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, the Halles trading heart of Paris, the Seine for its walks, the very fashionable Rue Montorgueil, Rue Etienne Marcel with its shops of brands, the Palais-Royal gardens, which is a real haven of peace, the Marais - the oldest Parisian district and Beaubourg with its museum of modern art. Alain's apartment is not far from the 10th district with its Indian, Pakistani and Turkish restaurants.

In this area, in the middle ages there was what is called "la cour des miracles"
(‘The Yard of Miracles’) that Victor Hugo described in his famous novel "The Hunchback of
Notre Dame". You can still find that kind of atmosphere nowadays in a few streets in this
district.
Alain defines himself as a seeker of happiness and kindness.

Alain speaks basic English and no other foreign language.

This does not mean that he is not friendly, as he is fascinated by his new B&B activity and ensures that his service is perfect. If you want to be independent, he will be discreet; if you need him, he will be there to give you advice. Moreover, he knows Paris very well and can suggest secret walks or restaurants in his area according to your budget.
History of the Bonne Nouvelle area
Origins of Rue Saint-Denis
The Rue Saint-Denis is registered in the history of Paris. It reveals the plan of several very former roads which led from Lutèce, the Gallo-Roman city, to Rouen. It took the name of the abbey to which it leads. From the 12th century, the establishment of the Halles in the heart of Paris increased its importance; it became one of the main trading roads of Paris.

Origins of the ‘Bonne Nouvelle’ district
In the 2nd district of Paris was the ‘Yard of Miracles’, ‘the den of the poverty’, where poor people and bandits lived. The district ‘Bonne Nouvelle’, which means ‘good news’, owes its name to the purification of the Yard of Miracles; the eviction of the bandits.

History of the 2nd district
Under the reign of Louis XIV, one of the most beautiful walks of Paris was the New Avenue; wide covered with sand path, flanked by two service roads and lined with four rows of trees. It is the ancestor of Paris’ Large Boulevards. Then, the large boulevards, which were always crowed became (after the 18th century) one of the most famous places for the Parisian life and fashion. In the 1850s in 1860s, the Baron Haussmann, had huge works of renovation done to improve the traffic in the capital. He had the Avenue de l'Opera created, as well as Rue du Quatre Septembre, Rue Réaumur and, in the East, the streets Etienne-Marcel, Turbigo, the Boulevard de Sebastopol and the covered galleries much in fashion in the beginning of the 19th century.
Your hosts room
If you want two bedrooms, it is possible. Alain will sleep in the guest room and offer his own bedroom through the en suite living room where another bed will be prepared.

His bedroom is 12 square meters and is equipped with a double bed (140X190), 38 cm high from the ground, made of brown rattan from the famous brand 'Ligne Roset', a Louis Philippe style chest of drawers, a cabin-trunk Vuitton style, a small library, a television set and a DVD player.

The living room is equipped with a convertible CIMMA high quality sofa from the designer Claude Brisson. It will be transformed into a bed for two people (155cm X 200cm). It is rather low, only 30 cm from the ground.
These two rooms are en suite and you need to go through the living room to access the bedroom.
If you want three bedrooms, this is again possible. Alain can offer his entire apartment to you while he stays with a friend close by.

In this case breakfast will be kept at your disposal in the kitchen, except fresh bread and croissants that you will have to buy at the bakery nearby like true Parisians.

Alain will check on you each day in case you need anything or you can always get in touch with him on his cell phone.
Decoration is sophisticated, modern and harmonious, with pieces of furniture of very different styles. Among which: a Louis-Philippe chest of drawers, a Vuitton case, chandeliers made by contemporary creators, a Ligne Roset bed, convertible CINNA sofas, a dining-room table and translucent bar stools, a 1970 living-room table made of glass, a removable red fireplace, and paintings of various styles. If you like you can relax in the living room.
